Documents and Environments

This part asks how an analysis rebuilds, as a document, on someone else’s machine. It opens the second quarter and assumes a dataset of the kind Part III produces.

• 19  Reproducible Reports with Quarto writes the analysis as a Quarto document whose numbers are computed rather than typed.
• 20  renv for Package Management records the package versions the analysis used in a lockfile and restores them elsewhere.
• 21  Docker for Reproducibility pins the R version, operating system, and system libraries in a container.
• 22  Assembling the Compendium assembles the pieces into a research compendium and audits it against the Five Pillars.
• 23  Reproducible Pipelines with targets turns the analysis into a pipeline that rebuilds only what an edit has invalidated.
• 24  Cloud Compute and Remote Servers moves a job to a cluster or a cloud instance when a laptop is not enough.
